Whorl is teal green dyed and stabilized Red Palm, set on a Dymalux shaft in the color cocobolo.

Counter balance "beauty marks"

This palm wood had beautiful ombre color gradation and the way it took up the dye adds even more character. Palm is an unusual wood. Unlike other woods, where the heartwood is the best, in palm trees the heart is soft, so we use the outer portion of the tree in woodworking. The spin on this spindle is really nice and the whorl shape is a brand new design. I called it the Audrey because it reminded me of a ballerina in a pancake tutu from Swan Lake or The Nutcracker.
