$35.00
85% CVM Romeldale sheep wool/10% Mulberry Silk/5% Tussah Silk
Beautifully prepared boutique batch roving which makes a lusciously soft and squishy yarn. The fleece was from a yearling wether with very fine and crimpy fiber. The color is a beautiful mocha moorit brown. It was professionally scoured/milled and I had them blend in 10% high quality Mulberry Silk and 5% Tussah Silk. The resulting fiber is definitely next to skin soft with some additional sheen and strength from the silk.
This batch is super fresh and a dream to spin. It likes to spin thin yarn and is perfect for both supported spindle and wheel spinning. If you like to spin long draw (and next to skin soft, squishy yarn) you should fall in love.
The roving comes in 5 oz. bumps and the sample shown was a quick wheel spin of a fine single that was chain plied into the three-ply yarn shown. It has been soaked/dried and shows how it bloomed.
Romeldale sheep were only available in white until a genetic mutation happened in a Californian flock that created some unique badger colored offspring. These sheep were further developed and are now called CVM, which is short for California Variegated Mutant. While the name is odd, the fleeces of these sheep are amazing and provide a lot of color variation. The CVM breed is considered a rare heritage breed and is categorized as critical by the Livestock Conservancy. CVM Romeldale is one of my favorite wools to work with and I hope you love it too.
