Fordite (also known as Detroit Agate or Motor City Agate) is a unique and scarce material that is from overspray of the vehicle painting process. As each vehicle is painted there are surfaces that collect the overspray. As those layers build up it creates a very unique material that has been used in the jewelry realm. This overspray is typically chipped off and thrown away as a waste product, however, some of it makes it into the crafting and jewelry world for us to use and enjoy. Now that most vehicles are painted with robots this material is getting even harder to locate. The wooden top portion of this whorl is a dyed and laminated wood product. I am not 100% sure what it is since I acquired it from an elderly gentleman and he didn't remember. It may be Dymondwood, which was a laminated hardwood product similar to Dymalux.
